On the public record, and still open. A claim, paper, or film — not a finding that it was ours, and not a finding that it was not.
What was claimed
Two children watching cows reported a sphere and small figures that rose and left a sulfur smell. Gendarmerie took the statement the same day.
What is on the record
This file is a working record — a report, not a verdict. Official paper, if any, is linked where we have it.
François and Anne-Marie Deplechin, 13 and 9, were watching the herd when they saw a spherical object and four small black figures. One child said a figure seemed to take a dog or a child-sized form. The sphere rose with a whistle, flattening as it went. The grass was pressed. A smell of sulfur lingered. The gendarmerie interviewed them that afternoon.
GEPAN/SEPRA kept the file. Skeptics point to the age of the witnesses and later retellings. The same-day police report is why it stays in a French official catalogue.
Could this have been ours?
The known sky, that night.
Satellites were already up. The station was not. Starlink was not.
Always
Aircraft, balloons, meteors
Landing lights, flares, lanterns, reentries, fireballs. They are on the known sky. They do not close a file by themselves — they are what a serious look has to hold the claim against.
The known sky
None of the above land
Stations, trains, and planets do not set down in a field or leave a body. This file is a ground report. The known sky still has to be named. It does not answer the claim.
