Unidentified

On the public record, and still open. A claim, paper, or film — not a finding that it was ours, and not a finding that it was not.

Contemporary newspaper reports from The Dandenong Journal (April 1966) and witness statements document the mass observation.

What was claimed

Over 200 students and teachers at Westall High School and a nearby school witnessed a silver disc-shaped object descend and land in a nearby paddock. Police and military personnel reportedly arrived and suppressed discussion.

What is on the record

This file is a working record — a report, not a verdict. Official paper, if any, is linked where we have it.

On the morning of April 6, 1966, during recess at Westall High School in Melbourne's Clayton South suburb, more than 200 students and several teachers observed one or more silvery-grey disc-shaped objects with a slight dome. The objects flew over the school oval, maneuvered, and at least one descended into The Grange paddock behind a stand of trees. Witnesses described the craft as silent and metallic. Some students ran toward the landing site and saw a circular impression in the grass. Shortly afterward, police and military personnel arrived at the school, cordoned off the area, and instructed students and staff not to discuss the event. Local newspapers reported the mass sighting, and teacher Andrew Greenwood provided a detailed account to investigators. The case remains one of Australia's most significant mass UFO events with physical traces reported.

Could this have been ours?

The known sky, that night.

Satellites were already up. The station was not. Starlink was not.

Always

Aircraft, balloons, meteors

Landing lights, flares, lanterns, reentries, fireballs. They are on the known sky. They do not close a file by themselves — they are what a serious look has to hold the claim against.
