What was claimed
Chicken farmer Joe Simonton observed a silvery disc land in his yard and three short humanoid beings inside. One appeared to be cooking; Simonton provided water and received four pancakes in return. The craft departed. The pancakes were analyzed by the U.S. Air Force and NICAP. Investigated by Project Blue Book and J. Allen Hynek; Simonton's character vouched for by local officials and neighbors.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 18, 1961, 60-year-old Joe Simonton of Eagle River, Wisconsin, heard a strange noise like "knobby tires on a wet pavement" outside his rural home. Looking out, he saw a bright silvery saucer-shaped craft, about 30 feet in diameter and 12 feet high, hovering or landed in his yard. A hatch opened, revealing three dark-skinned humanoid beings about 5 feet tall who appeared to be in their late 20s. One was frying food on a flameless grill. Simonton gestured for some, and one of the beings handed him four small, perforated pancakes. He provided a jug of water in return. The beings made no verbal communication. The object then rose with a humming sound and departed to the south. Simonton tasted one pancake, describing it as like cardboard. He contacted local authorities; the case was investigated by Project Blue Book, NICAP, and J. Allen Hynek. One pancake was analyzed and found to consist of ordinary terrestrial ingredients (flour, sugar, cornmeal, etc.). Local judge and neighbors attested to Simonton's honesty and reliability. The event received national press coverage.
