During the night of July 8 to 9, 1996, in the village of Certesti, Romania, police sergeant Marian Mancu and voluntary guardian Marcel Rusu were on night patrol on the main road in front of the police office when they observed a bright object with blinking colored lights. They also encountered a strange being that one of the witnesses described in terms that led him to believe it was satanic in appearance. Other villagers reported related phenomena: Gheorghe Ghenghea and his daughter experienced TV picture deterioration and blackout around the same time; Stefan Dumitru Carje was awakened by intense dog barking at 1:12 a.m. A tractor driver and another man reported seeing a bright light with colored blinking earlier in the evening. Researcher Dan D. Farcas and colleagues conducted on-site interviews with the witnesses and skeptics in the village shortly after the event, documenting the accounts in detail.
