Long-duration FLIR footage from Navy helicopter showing a heat signature with apparent thermal emissions.

What was claimed

Chilean Navy AS532 Cougar helicopter crew using a WESCAM MX-15 FLIR camera filmed an object visible only in infrared that appeared to emit a gaseous plume while flying parallel to the aircraft.

What is on the record

This file is a working record — a report, not a verdict. Official paper, if any, is linked where we have it.

While on a routine daytime training and patrol flight north along the Chilean coast at approximately 4,500 feet, the crew of a Chilean Navy helicopter observed an object on their infrared camera that was not visible to the naked eye. The technician operating the WESCAM MX-15 FLIR system recorded over nine minutes of continuous footage. The object maintained a consistent distance and heading relative to the helicopter before emitting what appeared to be two intense thermal discharges or plumes. The video, along with supporting data, was turned over to Chile's CEFAA (now SEFAA), which conducted a multi-agency investigation involving scientists, analysts, and aviation experts. The committee ultimately classified the event as an unidentified aerial phenomenon after ruling out conventional explanations such as aircraft or balloons to their satisfaction, though independent analysts have proposed it may be a commercial airliner at distance. The full video was publicly released by the Chilean government.

Could this have been ours?

The known sky, that night.

The station was flying. Starlink was not. A string of orbs in this year is usually not a train.

A bright, steady moving star. A few minutes to cross. No strobe. Occupied since 2000. NASA publishes the pass times. Not unidentified.

Venus and the bright planets

A fixed brilliant point. Does not streak. Does not hover over a street then leave. Often the first misread light in a rural report.

Always

Aircraft, balloons, meteors

Landing lights, flares, lanterns, reentries, fireballs. They are on the known sky. They do not close a file by themselves — they are what a serious look has to hold the claim against.
