Julio Platner Encounter, Winifreda

On the evening of August 9, 1983, Julio Platner drove to the farm of Antonio Fischer, about 12 km north of Winifreda on Route 25. As he got out of his Fiat pickup to open the gate around 7:30 p.m., he was suddenly blinded by an intense beam of light resembling an acetylene torch or welding arc and heard a turbine-like whistling sound. He instinctively covered his face and lost consciousness. When he regained awareness, he found himself seated in what felt like a suspended dentist's chair inside a spherical, brightly lit room. Four anthropomorphic beings — three males and one female, approximately 1.60–1.67 m tall with athletic builds — surrounded him. Their skin or tight-fitting suits matched the room's color; they had large, protruding, opaque eyes without eyelids that conveyed intense but calming stares, ears flat against the skull, and normal five-fingered hands. The beings communicated telepathically, reassuring him that such events occurred frequently worldwide. The female inserted a tube into a vein in his left arm (after applying something to his wrist), drew blood upward without apparent suction, and the procedure lasted about five minutes. Platner felt no fear, only tranquility. He later awoke near his vehicle with no memory of re-entry. The next day he visited Dr. Pizarro, who noted unusual marks and urged him to report to police. Corporal Carlos Ovidio Ponce of the Winifreda police investigated; a nearby telegraph line was found severed and burned at the site. Platner suffered subsequent physical effects and the case received press coverage and official attention.
