Standing

Unidentified

On the public record, and still open. A claim, paper, or film — not a finding that it was ours, and not a finding that it was not.

What was claimed

An F-86D pilot was ordered to fire on a locked radar target over England. The target vanished before he could. He was told not to speak of it.

What is on the record

This file is a working record — a report, not a verdict. Official paper, if any, is linked where we have it.

1st Lt. Milton Torres, flying an F-86D from RAF Manston, was vectored onto a large return that his radar locked at a range and size he later compared to a ship. He was ordered to fire rockets. As he closed, the target left the scope faster than he could follow. He returned to base and was debriefed by a National Security Agency officer, he said, and told to stay quiet.

Torres spoke publicly decades later. RAF radar files from the night have been discussed in later document releases. The case is a named scramble, a lock, and an order to shoot — rare even in this catalogue.

Could this have been ours?

The known sky, that night.

Satellites were already up. The station was not. Starlink was not.

Always

Venus and the bright planets

A fixed brilliant point. Does not streak. Does not hover over a street then leave. Often the first misread light in a rural report.

Always

Aircraft, balloons, meteors

Landing lights, flares, lanterns, reentries, fireballs. They are on the known sky. They do not close a file by themselves — they are what a serious look has to hold the claim against.

Orbit · Space — the desks for lights that are already named.
