Loch Raven Dam Electromagnetic Encounter

Shortly after midnight on 26 October 1958, Phillip Small and Alvin Cohen were driving near the bridge over Loch Raven Reservoir when they spotted a large, iridescent, egg-shaped object hovering approximately 100-150 feet above the bridge. The object emitted a soft white glow. As they drove closer to investigate, their car's engine, headlights, and electrical system suddenly died. The witnesses got out of the vehicle and observed the object for about 45 seconds. It then emitted a brilliant white flash accompanied by a thunder-like sound; the men felt a wave of heat on their faces. The object began to rise, its edges becoming less defined, brightened, and vanished within 5-10 seconds. The witnesses were then able to restart their car. They drove to a phone booth and reported the incident to the Ground Observer Corps and police. Officers responded, took statements, and noted the witnesses' visible agitation and mild facial redness consistent with sunburn. Project Blue Book investigated the case (Case 6148) but could find no conventional explanation, ultimately stating it posed no threat to national security. The case is catalogued as an unidentified electromagnetic-effect sighting.
