On the night of April 25/26, 2013, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection DHC-8 aircraft equipped with a Wescam MX-15 EO/IR turret was on routine patrol near Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The crew observed an object without transponder and began recording with the infrared sensor. The footage, approximately 4 minutes in the released version, shows a small object traveling at low altitude over the airport area, appearing to change shape or split into two, and then moving toward the ocean where it appears to enter the water without significant disturbance. The video was later obtained and analyzed by groups such as the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies before being officially addressed by AARO, which attributes the observations to sky lanterns or balloons carried by wind with no transmedium capability. The infrared sensor tape was publicly released via government channels.
