What was claimed
A glowing object was seen to strike a hill known as Height 611. Residents recovered slag-like metal and mesh. Soviet investigators collected samples.

On a winter evening, people in Dalnegorsk watched a reddish object descend and hit the rocky hill above town. There was no conventional crater. Schoolchildren and adults picked up silvery drops, a carbonaceous slag, and a fine “net.” Chemists in the Soviet Far East reported unusual lead, silicon, and rare-earth ratios; later papers argued for industrial residue and a failed military device.
The hill is still walked. The samples exist in collections of uneven provenance. The file is a small-town impact without an airplane, in the last years of the USSR.
