What was claimed
Airline pilots on a flight from Tbilisi to Tallinn observed a glowing object that changed shape, approached the aircraft, projected a beam or searchlight to the ground, and enveloped the plane in a mysterious ray. Multiple aircraft and ground radar reportedly tracked it. Soviet authorities investigated; later analysis suggested possible atmospheric or misperception factors but the case remains not

On the night of September 7, 1984, the crew of an Aeroflot airliner flying north near Minsk observed a bright glowing object off to their right at around 4:10 a.m. Over the next 10 minutes the object appeared to change shape, rapidly approached the aircraft, projected beams or searchlights downward illuminating the ground, and then directed a ray or beam at the plane itself. The co-pilot later reported feeling ill after the encounter. Other aircraft in the vicinity were alerted by air traffic control, which was also tracking the object on radar. Sketches made by the pilot were later published in Soviet scientific journals. The incident was detailed in Jacques Vallée's book UFO Chronicles of the Soviet Union. While some later critiques have proposed conventional explanations such as a rocket launch or atmospheric phenomenon, the multi-witness aviation and radar aspects made it one of the better-documented Soviet-era cases.

Captain Kenji Terauchi and crew of a JAL Boeing 747 cargo flight observed three unidentified objects, including two smaller craft and a massive 'mothership' the size of an aircraft carrier. Objects were tracked on onboard weather radar and by Anchorage ARTCC and military radar for nearly 50 minutes. FAA investigated and held a press conference.

A couple observed a very large (300-400 ft) object with multiple lights moving from north to south. Smaller lights disappeared, middle lights flashed white and red, it hovered over the tree line then dropped behind it. Video was recorded.
