Shag Harbour UFO Crash

On the evening of October 4, 1967, at least 11 residents of Shag Harbour, including several Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers, observed a dark object approximately 60 feet long with four bright white lights in a horizontal line descending at an angle toward the harbor. The object made a whooshing sound and created a bright splash upon impact with the water, after which a single white light remained visible on the surface for a short time before disappearing. Witnesses initially believed it was an aircraft crash. RCMP officers and local fishermen rushed to the scene in boats but found only a patch of yellowish foam. No distress calls or missing aircraft were reported. The Canadian Forces and Coast Guard conducted a search; divers from HMCS Granby examined the seabed but recovered no wreckage. A Department of National Defence memo dated shortly after refers to the event as a "UFO Report" and notes that possibilities of known objects (aircraft, flares, etc.) were discounted. The case remains officially unexplained in Canadian government files and is one of the best-documented historical UFO incidents involving official search efforts.
