Texas Tech professors and a student photographer reported V-formations of lights over Lubbock on multiple nights.

On the night of 25 August 1951, three Texas Technological College professors sitting in a backyard saw 15 to 20 lights in a rough crescent pass overhead in seconds. They saw the same display again. Other towns on the South Plains reported it. A freshman, Carl Hart Jr., made several photographs of a V of lights from his bedroom window.

Blue Book first offered migrating plover reflecting streetlights, then backed off. Radar at Reese Air Force Base independently tracked an unidentified target on at least one of the nights. The photographs have been called birds, a hoax, and a genuine formation.

What the file keeps is the quality of the first witnesses — working scientists who went outside because they could not explain what they had just seen — and a set of stills that still do not settle.
