What was claimed
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection infrared video from Aguadilla appears to show an object over the water that splits, or is joined, without an obvious aircraft profile.
What is on the record
The clip is authentic CBP sensor footage, now also hosted as a U.S. government work on DVIDS. AARO later assessed sky lanterns / two objects at wind speed and did not treat a transmedium event as proven. The film is real. The extraordinary reading is not a government finding.
A DHC-8 of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, flying a routine patrol with infrared, tracked a heat-bright object moving fast and low near Rafael Hernández Airport. The object crossed the beach, appeared to enter the water without slowing, continued, and then seemed to split into two. The crew was not chasing a known aircraft.
The video leaked in 2013 and was later examined by the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, which published a technical paper arguing against a dual-engine aircraft, a pair of sky lanterns, or a balloon, and leaving the identification open. Critics still offer a pair of ultralights or a sensor artifact on the water.
It is a government sensor tape, not a story. The written account is the crew’s and the analysts’. The picture is the infrared itself — not reproduced in this file.
