The light over Karelia matches the launch of Kosmos 955. A working Soviet satellite, not an open craft.
What was claimed
A glowing object that showered the city with luminous “jets” was seen across northwest Russia and Finland. TASS printed it as news.

At about 4 a.m., residents of Petrozavodsk reported a bright object that hovered, then sent down luminous rays or jets that some said left holes in windows. Similar observations were logged from Leningrad to Finland. TASS issued a dispatch. Later analysis tied the display to the launch of Kosmos-955 from Plesetsk, whose rocket plume can look like a jellyfish in the dawn sky.
The launch time matches. Some window damage claims did not survive inspection. The file stays as a lesson in how an orbital launch writes itself onto a city, and as a TASS bulletin that read like science fiction.
