On 16 December 2017, following a New York Times report, Pentagon spokespeople confirmed that AATIP — the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program — had been a real Defense Intelligence Agency-funded effort, begun around 2007, and that some unidentified-aerial-phenomena work continued after the line-item ended. The department released, around the same period, the now-public Navy videos later called FLIR, Gimbal, and GoFast.
The confirmation did not say the objects were extraterrestrial. It said the United States had studied them, on the books, with a name. This catalogue files the public confirmation as paper, not as a recovered craft.
