In 1977, after residents of Colares and nearby settlements reported lights that they said burned them, the Brazilian Air Force ran Operação Prato — Operation Saucer. Officers took photographs of lights over the water and the trees, kept a log, and then the work went quiet. Decades later the files surfaced: prints, sketches, and a military effort that treated the wave as real enough to staff.
The photographs show lights. They do not show occupants. Medical claims from the island remain contested. The paper is still a Latin American military case file, declassified, about a specific summer.
