The Chilean CEFAA (now SEFAA) was created by DGAC resolution in 1997 to systematically study anomalous aerial phenomena, especially those affecting aviation safety. It receives reports, conducts technical investigations involving experts in meteorology, astronomy, photography, and aviation, and issues conclusions directly to reporters. By recent counts, it has processed approximately 1,675 cases. The majority are explained as aircraft, drones, balloons, astronomical objects, or atmospheric phenomena. Unexplained cases are retained for further study but no evidence of extraterrestrial technology or threats has been identified. Since 2020, investigated cases are published on the official website, emphasizing scientific transparency and public access. The program serves as a model for rigorous, aviation-focused UAP evaluation without sensationalism.
